Diego Gabriel Gonzales - Courtesty Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque

From an article we posted Wednesday on SantaFeNewMexican.com:

A man arrested Tuesday in Albuquerque and charged with the severe beating of a 2-year-old girl is from Santa Fe and attended Capital High School.

Diego Gonzales, 34, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Albuquerque and ordered held on a $250,000 cash or surety bond.

According to the Metropolitan Detention Center inmate database, Gonzales is being held on charges of child abuse, kidnapping with great bodily harm, aggravated assault against a household member and false imprisonment.

As Albuquerque police were transporting Gonzales to jail Tuesday night, they walked him in front of reporters and our media partners at KOB-TV asked him why he did what police are accusing him of doing.

“I don’t know what happened,” Gonzales said while handcuffed, hanging his head down. “I drank a bottle of alcohol. I should have just stopped.”
