University of New Mexico assistant sports information director Kate Nicewicz on Friday night sent out an email warning of a scam regarding the men’s soccer team.

According to Nicewicz, a woman in Albuquerque’s Northeast Heights area called the school to alert them of a heavy set man in a dark blue Lobos shirt going door-to-door soliciting donations for the men’s soccer team to make a trip to Ireland.

The school says no such trip is planned for the team.

I have no idea if others have reported the scam to police or if anyone actually gave this guys money, but I thought I’d share the warning.

Not a great week for crime-related stories tied into UNM. Check out KRQE’s article from earlier this week: Prison gang adopts UNM Lobo as symbol
