The old sword in a cane trick lands Santa Fe man in jail

A 34-year-old Santa Fe man is in jail after witnesses say he threatened a woman with a sword Tuesday evening in the parking lot at Walgreens on St. Francis Drive.

According to police, Jessie G. Garcia struck the vehicle parked next to him when he opened his car door. The woman inside looked at him and raised her hands in the air, according to Santa Fe Police Lt. Louis Carlos.

“He apparently didn’t like that because he retrieved from his vehicle a cane, twisted it and slid out from inside the cane a long sword and began threatening the woman inside the car,” Carlos said.

Police say Garcia was “highly intoxicated” at the time of the incident at 1096 St. Francis Drive.
