Two temporary employees with the Santa Fe Fire Department were relieved of their duties Thursday after the men were arrested and charged with alcohol-related offenses at an inactive fire station near Airport Road.

Genaro Romero, 19, and Rene R. Arellano, 24, were members of a fuel suppression group, but as of Thursday morning were no longer employed by the City of Santa Fe.

According to a statement of probable cause, a Santa Fe police officer spotted Romero drinking a beer at the old Station No. 8 in the 2500 block of Camino Entrada at 11:06 p.m. Wednesday. Romero told an officer that Arellano purchased the beer for him and a third man, who was also under the age of 21. No criminal charges were filed against the third man and it is unclear if he was also fired.
