New Mexican contributor Gussie Fauntleroy brings us the news that a local fire crew was honored as the City of Santa Fe’s top employee group for July.
The crew responded to a call of an unresponsive driver in downtown Santa Fe in early May (see my blog post from May 6 with video by CLICKING HERE and see video at bottom of this blog post).
With firefighters already on scene, the driver woke up once Santa Fe Police arrived and tried driving off. That’s when the firefighters threw down wheel chocks in front of his car, giving police enough time to catch the immobilized driver and later arrest him on a charge of DWI.
From Gussie’s article in Sunday’s New Mexican:
“These firefighters set aside their personal safety for that of the community,” said fire department Battalion Chief Marty Sena, who nominated the team as the city’s top employee group for July. The crew consisted of Capt. Josh Briggs, engineer Paul Serrano, firefighters Matt Martinez, Phillip Carlson and Eric Wrolstad and paramedic Ben Esparza.
