According to Lt. Adan Mendoza, 39-year-old Jose Soto (aka Jose Melendez-Trillo) went to the home of his ex-girlfriend and the couple’s 5-year-old son in the Casitas Mobile Home Park, 521 Airport Road, sometime in the early morning hours Tuesday.

Detectives believe Soto argued with the woman, who is 34-years-old but whose name has not yet been released, leading to Soto getting a gun and shooting the woman, leaving her dead in the home.

He then took the couple’s 5-year-old son, according to Mendoza. It is unclear what caused the fight, what type of gun was used or where Soto might be.

Police consider him armed and dangerous and anyone with information on the whereabouts of him or his son is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 428-3720 or by calling 911.

The young boy was last seen wearing camouflage pajama bottoms and a T-shirt and has a blue cast on his right arm. Soto is believed to be driving a 1997 Ford Expedition with New Mexico license plate KAX-140. The SUV has a red hood, red fender and red door, according to Mendoza.
