The blog action quiets down quite a bit over the weekend when I’m playing Daddy with a sick little daughter at home. Here is a catch up of just a few crime stories from the past few days:
- Journal North: Santa Fean Charged With Voyeurism
A Santa Fe man has been arrested on voyeurism charges after he was caught allegedly taking inappropriate photos of several women, including minors, at a local Kmart.
Henry Montero-Torcida allegedly followed the women around the store and used his cell phone to take pictures as they reached for items on shelves and went about other shopping-related business. The images obtained included views up some women’s skirts, according to police.
- New Mexican: 19-year-old gets 12 years for September burglaries
A young man believed to be responsible for at least 120 burglaries in the Santa Fe area over the last five years finally ran out of chances Friday.
A tearful Jeremy Baca, 19, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after his conviction on charges of residential burglary, larceny, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and other offenses racked up during a mid-September crime spree in Santa Fe County.
Three of those years were suspended, meaning he will spend the better part of nine years in prison.
- The Associated Press: New Mexico Highlands football recruit arrested in California killing
LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) – A New Mexico Highlands University football recruit has been arrested by police in Las Vegas, N.M., in connection with a California homicide.
The Las Vegas Optic reports that police took 22-year-old Brandon Johnson into custody Wednesday. He was recruited in the spring and had just enrolled at Highlands for a summer class.
An Algodones woman is struggling to recover from the injuries she suffered in the same motorcycle wreck that killed her husband, a crash police say was caused by a drunk driver who slammed his pickup into the motorcycle head-on.
Debbie Hill spends most of her waking hours in a wheelchair and at times, struggling to get around on crutches.
She suffered a broken ankle, two broken leg bones, torn up knees, a broken pelvis, a crushed elbow and slight head injury even though she was wearing a helmet when the crash took place near Chimayo on May 28.
