An Albuquerque man was arrested Wednesday and charged with four counts of child abuse and one of criminal damage to property after police say he threw a 7-pound rock through the front window of Denny’s and cut a 4-year-old boy with the broken glass.

Edward Johnson, 50, told police “there were no people around when he threw it,” according to a criminal complaint.

Apparently there were because a 4-year-old boy eating breakfast with his grandparents and three  siblings — two older, one younger — suffered a cut, thankfully a minor one, to the top of his head.

As police were taking pictures of the injury, an officer reported glass was still falling out of the boy’ hair and there was shattered glass all over the family’s table including in a booster seat.

The criminal complaint also indicates Johnson has four active misdemeanor warrants out of Bernalillo County making him a flight risk, at least according to Santa Fe cops.
