This morning around 8:30 a.m., former Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano, who will enter a guilty plea in his embezzlement and fraud case today in state district court (12:30 p.m. in Stephen Pfeffer’s courtroom), posted the following on his Facebook page:
Today I begin officially taking responsibility for my actions, I apologize again to everyone and I thank all of you who have given me prayers and words of encouragement. God Bless. — Greg Solano, former Santa Fe County Sheriff on his personal Facebook page
Considering he has more than 2,000 friends on Facebook and I’ve now received multiple emails about this, I am dropping my general rule of leaving people’s Facebook pages alone (there are times I feel it is in the public interest, but often would prefer it be left alone).
Solano will appear in court today, the first time he’s appeared in State District Court in this case with the judge, prosecutors and defense attorneys allowing every other appearance so far to be waived.
He faces hundreds of years in jail and tens of thousands of dollars in restitution. But don’t expect Solano to see any time in a jail cell. Electronic monitoring is a likely scenario in an embezzlement case so he can be out working on paying the restitution.
I will be Tweeting the happenings of the hearing today on my Twitter account (@GeoffGrammer) and will use the hash tag #Solano of #SolanoNM or something good like that for those who want to follow.
