The numbers: Property crime down in Santa Fe in first half of 2011

Fewer homes were broken into in the first half of 2011 than in any of the previous three years.

After 2010 set record highs in burglary numbers in Santa Fe, increased communication between the DA’s office and Santa Fe Police, among others, has led to a dramatic decrease in property crime numbers in the city limits through the first half of 2011.

Here are the numbers based on reports between Jan. 1 and June 30 with same numbers (Jan. 1 – June 30) for the previous three years and the total numbers for those years in parenthesis:

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES (Jan.-June)
  • 2008: 245 (total for year 514)
  • 2009: 398 (total for year 820)
  • 2010: 358 (total for year 876)
  • 2011: 332
COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES (Jan.-June)
  • 2008: 128 (total for year 222)
  • 2009: 103 (total for year 209)
  • 2010: 96 (total for year 257)
  • 2011: 113
AUTO BURGLARIES (Jan.-June)
  • 2008: 504 (total for year 903)
  • 2009: 491 (total for year 1,064)
  • 2010: 617 (total for year 1,150)
  • 2011: 445
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY (Jan.-June)
  • 2008: 688 (total for year 1,200)
  • 2009: 481 (total for year 907)
  • 2010: 433 (total for year 835)
  • 2011: 409
TOTAL PROPERTY CRIME REPORTS (Jan.-June)
  • 2008: 1,565 (total for year 2,839)
  • 2009: 1,473 (total for year 3,000)
  • 2010: 1,504 (total for year 3,118)
  • 2011: 1,299
