Santa Fe police ID female pedestrian killed Thursday night

Santa Fe police on Friday released the name of a pedestrian killed Thursday night near the intersection of Cerrillos Road and St. Michael’s Drive.

Nina Heman, 46, of Santa Fe, was pronounced dead at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center after she was driven into by a large black pickup turning right from northbound Cerrillos Road onto eastbound St. Michael’s Drive around 8:55 p.m. Thursday.

Sgt. Mike Eiskant reiterated Friday that the preliminary investigation into the accident suggests the accident was the result of “pedestrian error” and no citations are being issued.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to have been a factor for either the driver or the pedestrian.

Police say they have yet to identify a second woman believed to be walking with Heman at the time of the crash that reportedly fled the scene before police arrived. Eiskant said police do not know why the second pedestrian witnesses reported seeing would have fled.
