Here are portions of the story written late Thursday for Friday’s New Mexican about a fatal vehicle/pedestrian crash at the intersection of Cerrillos Road and St. Michael’s Drive:
A 46-year-old woman was killed Thursday night after being struck by a large pickup near the intersection of Cerrillos Road and St. Michael’s Drive.
Santa Fe police, who received a call of a pedestrian struck at 8:55 p.m., say drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
The woman’s name was not released at the scene Thursday night as next of kin had yet to be notified, according to Sgt. Mike Eiskant.
Police say there was a second woman crossing the street — she made it across the street safely — with the woman who was killed. The surviving pedestrian fled the scene before police arrived. Investigators ask that the woman or anyone with information on that woman call police dispatchers at 428-3710.
“This looks to be pedestrian error,” Eiskant said. “She was crossing outside of the crosswalk — at least that is what we believe to have happened at this point.”
