Just a quick update here… Former Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano has a plea hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday July 20 in State District Judge Stephen Pfeffer’s courtroom in downtown Santa Fe.
Other than his unflattering perp walk after his January arrest and his booking mug shots at the county jail, the formerly outspoken, love-the-attention former lawman has actually kept a pretty low profile in recent months. Included in that has been a waiver of his appearance at every court appearance so far in his criminal case.
But next week, Solano will have to appear in court. He’ll have to walk through the front door where his former employees — sheriff’s county deputies who run courthouse security — will have to watch him walk through metal detectors. He’ll have to be in the same room as the prosecutor — Clovis-based DA Matt Chandler — who held a press conference on the courthouse steps announcing Solano’s arrest in January. And he’ll have to face those cameras he once loved.
It should be an interesting hearing to say the least.
