Santa Fe County Manager Katherine Miller on Tuesday said the county will have to pay back about $37,000 in grant money given from federal and state agencies as a result of the eBay scandal of former Sheriff Greg Solano.
Miller said during a County Commission meeting that based on some of the items stolen from the county and sold by Solano on eBay for personal gain, the county would have to pay back:
- $32,888.90 to the state’s Department of Finance and Administration as part of a Law Enforcement Protection Fund grant
- $2,119.22 to the U.S. Department of Justice
- $2,099.50 to the state’s Department of Transportation
Solano and his defense attornies Brooke Gamble and Tom Clark, meanwhile, are in plea negotiations with Clovis-based District Attorney Matt Chandler where the two sides continue to haggle over how much restitution Solano should pay.
