This from a City of Santa Fe press release emailed out earlier today… thought I’d share:

The Santa Fe Police Department and Santa Fe Fire Department invite the public to the annual FREE Law Enforcement Day Saturday July 16 at Ashbaugh Park located at 1703 Cerrillos Road (behind Fire Station #3).

Law Enforcement Day begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. There will be free hotdogs, hamburgers and door prizes. Attendees will have the opportunity to “Dunk a Cop”. Officers will have Child ID with Kasey, the Community Service K-9.

Another event sponsored by SFPD on Saturday July 16 is a second catalytic-converter etching, due to high demand from the first event held in May. The SFPD, in conjunction with Beaver Toyota, will be at Santa Fe Place Mall (next to Midas) in lot # 3 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The most targeted vehicles are Toyota SUVs and pick-ups, 1990 to present. Mitsubishi SUVs also have been targeted. Santa Fe Police Department is urging owners of these types of vehicles (or others that have catalytic converters) to have their catalytic converter etched to prevent theft, or to make it easier to identify a converter that is stolen.

Catalytic converters have been stolen at an increasing rate in the city of Santa Fe and surrounding areas. Catalytic converters contain several precious metals that make them a valuable recycling commodity. The vehicle license plate number will be etched onto the catalytic converter so that recyclers and would-be thieves will be prevented from stealing and/or reselling it.

  1. I plan on going! It’s a great opportunity to meet and show appreciation for the local heroes. I hope to also get my truck etched.
