For some that did not see my update from this morning on the shooting deaths in El Rancho on Sunday night, here it is (written probably around 11 a.m.):
EL RANCHO — Lloyd and Dixie Ortiz and their adult son Steven were found dead Sunday night in their El Rancho home.
New Mexico State Police can confirm they are investigating the deaths as a homicide and say that all three were found with gun shot wounds, but stopped short of saying they have confirmed that was the cause of death of the couple.
“Any death investigation handled by state police is handled initially as a homicide until proven otherwise,” Sgt. Tim Johnson, said. ”This is a suspicious death and at this point, I can’t really comment any further on the details.”
A man near the Ortiz home who identified himself as a member of the family said the family did not want to speak to reporters.
It is unclear who discovered the bodies and called police. The Office of the Medical Investigator has not yet completed autopsies on the three.
Lloyd, 55, Dixie, 53, and Steven, 21, were discovered dead around 7:15 p.m. in their home at 3 Coral St., in El Rancho, where the family business is also located.
The family owned and operated Ortiz Tile Contractors. Check back for more details as they become available.
