UNM Lobos football player DeShon Marmon was arrested in San Francico this week after police say he refused to pull his sagging pants up while on a US Airways flight back to Albuquerque following the funeral of a friend and former high school teammate in the Bay Area.

From Justin Berton’s article in the San Francisco Chronicle, which is the best story I’ve seen on the topic so far:

SAN FRANCISCO — A dispute that began after a passenger refused to pull up his sagging pants led to his arrest and removal from a plane at San Francisco International Airport on Wednesday, police said.

Deshon Marman, 20, a University of New Mexico football player who was in the city to attend the funeral of a close friend, former Lincoln High School standout David Henderson, was being held at San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of trespassing, battery and resisting arrest.

… and …

The employee asked Marman to pull up his pants before he boarded the plane, but he refused, Rodriguez said. Marman allegedly repeated his refusal after taking his seat on the plane.

“At that point he was asked to leave the plane,” Rodriguez said. “It took 15 to 20 minutes of talking to get him to leave the plane, and he was arrested for trespassing.” Marman allegedly resisted officers as he was being led away.

Read that San Francisco Chronicle story here:

UNM’s Sports Information Director sent out an e-mail Thursday morning saying he was planning a meeting with head coach Mike Locksley for a statement on the matter because local and national media outlets have been contacting the school for comment.

And on a side note, I’m one of the 10-12 people left in the world that has never watched an episode of American Idol. But I have seen the Pants on the Ground clip and am guessing its about the only good thing that’s ever come from that show.
