State District Judge Mike Murphy

Third Judicial District Judge Mike Murphy entered a plea of not guilty Friday morning in Las Cruces to felony bribery charges.

While he went through the booking motions there at the courthouse after his arraignment — fingerprinting, being told to surrender his passport, etc. — he was allowed to post his $10,000 bond before being actually taken to the county jail, which isn’t surprising in this circumstance. A judge at the county jail would be more sideshow and more work for the guards there than it is worth at this point.

Again, Heath Haussamen at NMPolitics.net has, despite having some pretty significant distractions going on the past few weeks, has been doing a pretty damn good job on this story.
