Santa Fe County Sheriff's badge.

For the second time in the past week, I’m trying to sneak in a day off to catch up on several comp days accumulated over the past month or so (still a few days to go) but I couldn’t stay away from the blog when I heard this…

Santa Fe police on Tuesday morning charged Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeremy Garcia with shoplifting from K-Mart. It’s a misdemeanor and he was not booked in jail.

Santa Fe Police Capt. Aric Wheeler said the items allegedly being stolen were from a $19 car waxing kit.

Before the anger rises too much about Garcia not being booked into jail, this is not uncommon for a petty misdemeanor shoplifting charge of under $100, which is what Garcia, 39, was charged with. He is on paid leave pending an internal investigation.

I do not have an available picture of Jeremy. I have also not talked with Jeremy to see if he has a side to this story he’d like out there, but will post it here immediately if I hear anything from him.
