Sheriff’s office makes arrest in gas station armed robbery investigation

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday put out a press release announcing the arrest of an armed robbery suspect that occurred Monday at a gas station in Arroyo Seco.

Here is the release on 27-year-old Daniel Fernandez, who was being held Thursday night in the Santa Fe County jail in lieu of one $150,000 bond and one $200,000 bond, according to jail records:

Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested 27 year old, Daniel Fernandez, in regards to an armed robbery that occurred on February 28, 2011, at the Rhoc Express Service Station located at 18558 US 84/285 in Arroyo Seco, NM. Investigators were able to obtain the surveillance video from the store where a male was captured displaying a handgun to the clerk and removing money from the cash register.  The male fled on foot prior to Sheriff’s deputies arrival and was not located in the area.

On March 2, 2011 Investigators were able to gather information from Agents from New Mexico State Police in the Espanola District which led to the positive identification of Daniel Fernandez from the surveillance video taken from the Rhoc Express Service Station.  It was also discovered that Daniel Fernandez had an active arrest warrant for a prior Armed Robbery handled by the Espanola Police Department.  Information was then gathered in regards to a possible location in the Espanola, NM area were Daniel Fernandez might be staying.

Agents from Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State Police Dist. 7, Espanola Police Department and the US Marshall’s Office arrived at the residence and located Daniel Fernandez hiding in a vent duct within the residence and he was taken into custody.  Inside the residence Investigators found a handgun and clothing that Daniel was observed wearing in the surveillance video from the Rhoc Express Service Station. Daniel was transported to the Santa Fe County Detention Center where he was booked on the unrelated outstanding warrant secured by the Espanola Police Department.

On March 3, 2011 Investigators secured an arrest warrant for Daniel Fernandez through the Santa Fe County Magistrate Court, ($200, 000.00 cash only bond) , charging him with Armed Robbery and Tampering with Evidence in regards to the robbery at the Rhoc Express Service Station in Arroyo Seco, NM.  Daniel Fernandez was served with the Magistrate Court warrant and booked at the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center.
