It was a tragic ending Saturday to a missing person report from earlier this week.
Santa Fe police identified a body found in an arroyo between DeVargas Middle School and the Santa Fe University of Art and Design as that of 78-year-old Benito “Benny” Pacheco, who was last seen getting off a bus Tuesday morning in downtown Santa Fe.
Pacheco’s body was found Saturday morning by a man collecting cans, Capt. Tom Wiggins said.
Police will await autopsy result from the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque before giving a cause of death, but Wiggins acknowledged police have no reason to believe it was anything other than exposure to the elements. Pacheco’s family said the man suffered from Alzheimer’s.
