Police release more info on Ex-Marine shooting; funeral services set

Pecos High graduate and ex-Marine Diego M. Gonzales, who suffered from PTSD and was killed last week after a shootout with a New Mexico State Police Officer on I-25, is set to be buried Thursday at the national Cemetery in Santa Fe.

Meanwhile, a search warrant affidavit filed Tuesday in state district court reveals a little more info on the incident that led to Gonzales’ death (more on warrant in tomorrow’s New Mexican). In the warrant, it states that when police were told of the possible kidnapping, officer Bryan Waller was also told Gonzales was armed and had warned that if police were to get involved, he would shoot them.

The warrant indicates five shell casing from the state police officer’s gun (an AR-15 rifle) were found and four from Gonzales’ hand gun were also found.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 6 p.m.followed by a Rosary, 7 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel.

Fuuneral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 6, 2011, 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Pecos, NM followed by internment at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
