Allen Pacheco, the 24-year-old inmate who elbowed a young female jail guard last Sunday in Española and evaded police for nearly a week turned himself into authorities on Friday.
From New Mexico State Police Lt. Eric Garcia:
The escapee from Espanola Police Department (Allen Pacheco) turned himself into the State Police Office in Española Just after 4:30 p.p. (Friday). He was arrested and will be facing misdemeanor and felony charges. He will be booked into the TA Detention Facility.
Pacheco was getting a welfare check at the Española hospital and the guard assigned to take him was Santana Bustamonte, a senior at Española Valley High School who whould not have had the job of jail guard as the minimum requirements include either a high school diploma or GED.
