Juanita Martinez (Santa Fe County Jail)

The following is from a news release sent out by the Santa Fe Police Capt. Gerald Rivera on Tuesday afternoon on the capture of Juanita Martinez, who on Monday escaped custody while at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center:

Today, at about 1035, Santa Fe Police received a Crimes Stoppers tip that Juanita Martinez, who had escaped custody yesterday, was at the Chamisa Hills Apartments, located at 3226 Rufina Street.

Officers arrived at the apartment where an adult male opened the door and allowed officers to check his apartment. Martinez was found hiding in the bathroom. Once she was found, she did not resist arrest and was re-taken into custody without incident.

She did not have the handcuffs on that she had escaped with, and she claimed that she found a key and threw them away someplace off of Alameda Street, but she could not give an exact location.

The male at the apartment was cooperative and claimed that he was not aware that Martinez was wanted; no charges will be filed against him.

Martinez will be charged as follows:

  1. Escape From a Peace Officer (4th Degree Felony)
  2. Concealing Identity (original charge)
  3. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (original charge for possessing a suspected crack pipe and a syringe with suspected Heroin)
  4. Warrant for Larceny over $500
