Fun in the mud — viral videos have fun with police union/City hall squabbling

Here are a couple of episodes of “As the City Burns,” a viral YouTube spoof of the internal bickering going on between the Santa Fe Police Officers Union and City Hall (videos linked below).

While the videos are funny (at least to me and several others involved with these stories who I’ve spoken with), it is a sign of just how bad things have gotten at the PD. It seems like just a few years ago, taking internal bickering like this to the public in any form was below the department, but now, not so much.

While I can’t say who is making the videos, I hope they keep coming. And I have spoken to people on both sides of this argument and people on both sides have seen humor in these, even if not everyone agrees with what these videos portray.Anyway, here is Episode 1, which is a conversation between Police Chief Aric Wheeler and City Manager Robert Romero, who as you will see can dance much better than I think most people realized:

And here is Episode 2, which introduces Mayor David Coss into the soap opera and includes more of Romero’s dancing:

I can’t wait to make a cameo. I’m already pretty much shaped like these guys — short, round, big head — I’d fit right in!
