Teenage ninja bandit to be prosecuted as adult

Shalom Katz, the 17-year-old Santa Fe boy with a lengthy criminal record in the juvenile system, will be prosecuted as an adult for a charge of auto burglary and another of armed robbery in a case police say he dressed up like a ninja, wielded a hatchet and stole jewelry from the Dell Fox Jewelry store in downtown Santa Fe on Sept. 20.

Katz was in court Thursday, where a petition was filed to formally charge him for the two above-listed offenses.

He is being defended by Michael Jones, who didn’t have a comment after Thursday’s hearing but did enter for his client a denial to both charges.
