Police say a 28-year-old man used a knife Thursday to rob a 61-year-old woman at a drive-up ATM in southwest Santa Fe.
Seth Wheeler was arrested minutes after the theft and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A woman called emergency dispatchers at 4:25 p.m. to report she had just been robbed of cash she withdrew at the Wells Fargo branch bank at 4384 Rodeo Road.
Thanks to her very detailed description, Lt. Louis Carlos said, several police officers in the area tracked down Wheeler behind a bush near the Regal Santa Fe movie theater, 3474 Zafarano Drive, where he was arrested and found in possession of the woman’s cash and unspecified drug paraphernalia.
Officers involved in the arrest and the recovery of the money were Detective Sgt. Peter Neal, motorcycle Officers Anthony Tapia and Charles Otero, and Officer Maria Peña.
